I think you must, before import, assign source database NLS_LANG.
It´s very important to not loose data.

You can user SIZE parameter to divide the export.

There is a version requirement for the executables that you use in both
environments (can't remember off the top of my head - either they have to
match or something)

There is a NLS_LANG matching requirement.

Other than that, I think the dump file is agnostic if I remember correctly.
