Hi,
Are you running Oracle on a GI Cluster? If yes, and you cannot afford to
buy new hardware, it would be better to delete a node from the cluster,
reinstall it with the new release, add it back to the cluster, then repeat
the task for the remaining nodes. With this upgrade path you can easily
migrate from an OS level (and/or Linux flavor) to another one without
downtime.
From a cluster point of view, you need to disable the new OL7 naming for
the interfaces, this because the interface name for the private
interconnect must match among all the cluster nodes. oifcfg setif for the
private interconnect needs you to reboot the cluster, so keep it in mind if
you want to use the new naming.
Off course, you must comply with the certification matrix -> OL7 is
certified with 12.1.0.2.

Thanks for your reply, it triggered me to double check the docs and in
chapter 4 I found this:
4.1 Conditions for Performing an Inplace Upgrade
Inplace upgrades are supported only for systems that run Oracle Linux 6
Update 5 or later. The following conditions must also be met:

The system must meet the minimum installation requirements for Oracle
Linux 7, see Section 1.1, “System Requirements”

The Oracle Linux 6 system has been completely updated from the
ol6_x86_64_latest channel or ol6_latest repository.

The Oracle Linux 6 system must have been installed using the Minimal
set of software.

No Oracle product stack is present on the system.

I was just reading about this a couple of days ago. Upgrade from OL6 to
OL7 without reinstall is very limited. O/S had to have been installed with
Minimum configuration, no Oracle stack can be installed, etc.
My guess is that relink should fix any issues with Oracle dB binaries, but
from a supportability point of view, you would not be in compliance.
You're probably better off building a new cluster and migrating to it.
