Oracle 7.3 could and depending on the platform in use and on what the user who
configured the listener choose to use, use ports other than 1521. Our VMS
systems defaulted to a different port than our UNIX based versions, maybe 1525.
Technically port 1521 is listed on a well-known port list as belonging to a
product other than Oracle. There is a wiki page somewhere on this but I do not
know where in my notes I can find this information so I am not going to look.

In Oracle 7.3 the listener used to listen on ports 1523 and 1521, then in Net
8.0 only 1521 (If I remember it right).
What's the deal with 1523?
Was that the original port used by Oracle SQL*Net in the older versions?
Was it introduced in Oracle 6 perhaps?
Why the switch to 1521.
Are there any old fogies on this list? :-)
Searching for Oracle 7.3 items in Google turns up nothing. Google used to
only provide us with what we asked but now... it's fudging and obfuscating.
