Patty, Mark, and Niall,

Yes there is hope, there is always hope. And I for one would sincerely
appreciate more women getting into the DBA field. Some 4 years ago I started
mentoring a much younger female junior DBA that was absolutely wonderful. I
cannot tell you what was going on, but we gelled into a team that was
wonderful. For some reason we seemed to have this knack of thinking along the
same lines which made working on problems together great even though separated
by a cube wall. Regrettably her husband decided to move to the West Coast &
our working relationship ended. I sincerely hope she found a new position with
as much enjoyment as she bestowed.

Was she "cute"? well that's something someone else would have to
evaluate. She was Asian and I'll admit to a prejudice in that regard due to
spending way too much time in Asia during my Military lifetime, I just can't
find Asian women "cute". Was she a good DBA? Absolutely. Would I work with
her again, without a doubt, and I will continue to count her as a friend.
Possibly the lack of "machismo" between us was the cure that most of us seek.

This is good news to hear.

We female DBAs are definitely the minority, even after all these years. Just
look around the next time you attend a conference. The line-up is always for
the Mens Restroom, not the Women's Restroom at an Oracle-related event!

And yes Marco, your comment was off-topic ! :-)

Woah Cool and I was complaining just this morning about "DBA peers" without
that kind of knowledge.
Indeed there is hope ! (was she pretty?) ;-)
Ehh Sorry, last remark was off topic.

Onderwerp: hope for the future

So there I was this morning sitting on the tube (UK underground rail system)
when a young student got on an sat down beside me. Obviously being both English
and a commuter I couldn't speak to her!, but I did sneak a look at what she was
reading. These turned out to be the notes she had made on her course that she
was now going over presumably in preparation for exams. The notes this morning
were on normal forms, entity relationship and data modelling. So there we go,
a young female student of IT would be pretty good in itself, the fact that she
was studying relational theory was the icing on the cake. There is hope ladies
and gentlemen, there is hope.
