Ray,
I both teach and have taken the Oracle University ASM and grid
infrastructure classes. My recommendation would be to find a walk-through
on how to install and configure ASM (http://oracle-base.com is as good as
they come) so you are somewhat familiar with the process and then take one
or both of those classes.
