Igor,

This likely has nothing to do with technical problems, especially now that
Oracle owns ZFS. Because of licensing, ZFS cannot be natively included in
the Linux kernel. Therefore, ZFS on Linux has to be added to the OS via
kernel module. Does this preclude the database from running just fine on
ZFS? Absolutely, not! Just ask Delphix.

I can't prove it, but I would posit Oracle would like to keep the benefits
of ZFS tied into its ZFS storage appliances (which work extraordinarily
well by the way) and those are easier to sell if you can't replicate their
capabilities on your own hardware (not in a supported fashion anyway).

Databases running on ZFS in Solaris is fully supported.
