Oracle Database 12c was released June 27, 2013 (unofficially) and July 1, 2013
(officially).
The primary purpose for DB12c is the multi-tenant functionality (pluggable
databases). Pluggable databases help you consolidate your database foot print
while maintaining a secure environment, for example.
No special technology associated, all the same features and functions of 11g
can be found in DB12c. There are enhancements that have been added for both
pluggable database support and traditional database support.
