While I understand quite well that one error situation shouldn't
be generalised, I fail to see what should be the problem with views on
public synonyms. Do they happen not to work on Oracle at all, on the SQL
standards, on a specific version of Oracle? Is that by design or just a
know bug (like undifferentiated NULLs or pointers or class == table at the
SQL standards level)?

There are somethings I trip over now and then, but quite often I
find them to be either SQL or Oracle bugs at the conceptual level -- like
when I wanted to store a historical series of storage allocation and usage
by tablespace, with an enabled foreign key to dba_tables or something, and
couldn't.
