Also when you have an unexpected memory leak and your DB server is bleeding
to death, swapping is a good way to catch it!   WIthout swap space the
crash is a lot more violent.

Oracle still calls for 16G swap regardless of how large the server memory

idea to have a swap partition available.

Hey, Jared!

My personal take is that there are still enough “ill-behaved”
applications out there that having at least SOME swap allocated is a
“defensive best practice”.

Among other things, the consequences of NOT having it can be extreme.

Maybe not the “old standard” 2x RAM; but at least some cushion that would
allow someone monitoring the system (you DO monitor that, right) to find
and fix issue before they become a “problem”.

That is the question.

I am curious about current thoughts on having or not having a swap
partition on Linux based Oracle servers.

Let's assume typical production standard servers with a reasonable amount
of RAM, sway 256G or more.

I  have some thoughts on this myself, but would like to see others'
thoughts on this.
