Jeffrey,
We use the RMAN to backup the database to disk at night and then transfer the
backups to a server that has a tape
drive to provide offsite storage. I am able to keep 1 month on site on the
storage server. It isn't a powerfull machine, just a pc with a lot of disk
space. I maintain 2 week live on the database server just in case.
It works great as we are a mixed environment of Novell,Linux, and Windows.

We are planning a switch from Windows to Linux for our systems. As a
result, we can no longer use Veritas Backupexec and must now switch to
RMAN. Since we are NOT going to connect a tape drive to each server,
what our my options for using a media manager. Veritas has a product
called Netbackup that works with RMAN. Database is Oracle 9i. Are
there other alternatives?
