If it's database have you considered cross the databases? One database
primary is in site1 and other database primary is in site2 and so on.
If the distance is not too far you can have a look at extended RAC.

between remote sites, so that each site can be used.
Have you done this? What software did you use?
Also, what are the limitations on schema, if any to do this?
