Hi Peter: I do not know if you have resolved this problem yet. I have been out of the office for an extended period and I am just now trying to catch up with the 'List'. We had a similar problem with AIX 5.1 and 'intelligent agent' version 9.2.0.4. Based on MetaLink note 1014910.6 we made sure the /etc/snmpd.conf was correct. Then we did the following: 1. Stop snmpd by running stopsrc -s snmpd (As root) 2. Start the agent by running agentctl start agent (As oracle) 3. Restart snmpd by running startsrc -s snmpd (As root) Our SYSADM did not see any ill effects caused by stopping and restarting snmpd in this way. He is looking into why we need to start the agent this way. Please note that once this is done you can stop and restart the agent as long as both the agent and snmpd are not both stopped (as in a reboot of the server). I hope this is of help if you have not already solved the problem, Paul Bennett >>> kfabijanic@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 03/05/04 11:06PM >>> Hi Peter Sorry, I would like to ask you some more questions, I am sure you have gone through this with Oracle support, I hope that you do not mind. Do you run Enterprise Manager Server (on the same or different node)? If you do, can you ping the agent? Do you see a session in database for DBSNMP user? I guess that you can not see the processes in UNIX (ps -ef | grep dbsnmp) (I have two dbsnmp and dbsnmpwd)? Has anyone changed the default password for the DBSNMP user and how? We are attempting to start the so called 'intelligent agent' version 9.2.0.4. Ironically, the 8.1.7 agent starts flawlessly every time. We have modified the snmpd.conf file to include the appropriate smux line without success. Looking at the log files would lead you to believe that the agent started. The folks at Oracle are a little confused by this because there are no errors and the logs indicate a successful start. We have played around with the values dbsnmp.polltime and dbsnmp.ipctime also without success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. --- Kresimir Fabijanic <kfabijanic@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hi Peter Can you ,please, be more precise which agent (I will assume it is dbsnmp - so called "intelligent" agent). I did not have any issues (so far...) on AIX5L 5.2 running 9.2.0.4 and oem 9.2.0.1. What specific errors are you getting? Kind regards Kresimir Fabijanic Peter Barnett wrote: This question has been asked before. After nearly a month of floundering with Oracle support we still cannot start the 9.2 agent on AIX 5.1 servers. We actually were successful once, but a restart failed. Oracle has not been much help. I don't think AIX is their area of expertise. This really looks like something OS specific but no one can identify exactly what. Any ideas or esperiences. ===== Pete Barnett Lead Database Administrator The Regence Group pnbarne@xxxxxxxxxxx __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
