A standby site, unless the licensing has changed receintly, must be licensed if it is applying the logs (you could just store the logs on disk I suppose, recreate the standby once a month or so and maybe you would be safe there). This is because, for all practical purposes, the database is running.... it's just applying redo in a constant recovery mode. If that approach to licensing is reasonable and right is another question. In this article it states Oracle does not charge for backup database = server unless it is used over 10 days a year. -----Original Message----- From: Stankus, Paula G=20 Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 1:33 PM To: Stankus, Paula G Subject: Microsoft Puts SQL Server in Line With Rivals on Backup Databases paula stankus has sent you a story from Computerworld.com, and would like you to read it! _______________________________________________________________________ =09 =09 MICROSOFT PUTS SQL SERVER IN LINE WITH RIVALS ON BACKUP DATABASES A new licensing policy that eliminates extra fees for installing backup = versions of SQL Server went into effect last week for users of the = database who have signed Software Assurance contracts with Microsoft. http://www.computerworld.com/databasetopics/data/software/story/0,10801, 9= 3666,00.html Click on the link or copy and paste it into your browser to view the story forwarded to you from Computerworld.com. =20 _______________________________________________________________________ THE COMPUTERWORLD STORE: REPORTS, WHITE PAPERS AND MORE Visit the Computerworld Store online, where you can get clear,=20 comprehensive reports on Security, Storage, ROI and more.=20 Find the information you need to get your job done.=20 New reports are added regularly. https://store.computerworld.com _______________________________________________________________________ COMPUTERWORLD ONLINE: Get all the latest IT news and analysis by visiting the Computerworld = Web site at http://www.computerworld.com News headlines: http://www.computerworld.com/news/headlines Knowledge Centers: http://www.computerworld.com/topics/ Discussion forums: http://cwforums.computerworld.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html -----------------------------------------------------------------
