ODBC Driver Question

In the 9i R2 odbc driver I can enter the username and password in the
user id box, e.g scott/tiger and my app connects
In the 8.1.7 version if I do that when I connect to my app it assumes
scott/tiger is the username and complains that there is no password
Is there a way I can make the 8i exhibit the same behaviour as the 9iR2
one?
