BINGO!  (Krish was right on, too) Local tnsnames at the top of the U:
drive it is.  Now - to find the culprit that left it lying around
there......

It probably means you are looking at a different tnsnames.ora file.
Is there a tnsnames file in the directory you are in on the u drive?
