If I were you, I would like to upgrade oracle on linux to latest patchset
and then do imp.
Also upgrade your linux kernel to the latest, in most case, it does good to
you.Are you using redhat AS ?
And be careful there oracle on linux does not support large data buffer,
even if you have enough memory.
Consider using ext3 for your filesystem.
