Morning Howard, >> I am trying to install oracle 11.2 on rehdat 2.6.18-194 >> >> The packages I need don't seem to be available on Redhat >> specifically gcc-4.1.2.el4 anybody managed to install? I've installed 11.2.0.2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 running in a VM on my laptop. I had to follow the instructions here: http://public-yum.oracle.com/ In addition to enabling the 5.5 base repository, I also enabled the other oracle ones. I then did, as root, yum install oracle-authorize to set yup the environment as per how Oracle needs it. I found that libaio-devel was not installed by this and the installer threw up a message that it wasn't installed, so I had to do it manually with yum install libaio-devel as root in a separate terminal session. A click on "check again" button said all was well and the software installed fine. I'm not sure which version of Oracle EL that your Red hat version corresponds to though, so you may need a different base repository enabled. Cheers, Norman.
