Sorry that I didn't get back on this earlier.

Cary - in your text, you mentioned the rather
non-scalability of SMP on win32.

in single use type statements on this server, I tend
to see about 13,000 LIOs per 100 MHz of CPU, where cpu
time and clock time are nearly the same in a lightly
loaded system.

if in fact, in 4-way SMP, we're only seeing 5,700 LIOs
per 100 MHz of CPU, all else being equal, then we're
seeing huge degradation as compared with "linear"
scalability of SMP.

has anyone seen any papers regarding LIOs / second /
100 MHz CPU vs. # CPUs for Intel 32 bit CPUs?
Athlons/Opteron?
SPARC?

I would expect a first-order response (non-linear).

I think I smell a research project, but no time soon,
as I'm on vacation all next week. Off to work on the
old disc golf game and assist a friend on getting his
new brewpub up and running.

thanks,

Paul
