Doubt Regarding Scan Listener

Hi All,
I am learning RAC as of now and finding a bit difficult to understand the
concept of "Scan Listener" in Oracle 11g R2. I went through official
documentation still the need, necessity & working methodology of SCAN
listener seems very confusing for me.
It will be great for me if anyone can help me to get the basics concepts
about Scan Listener in Oracle 11g R2.
