ZS3 storage has a number of advantages over non-Oracle storage for Oracle Database workloads. This includes (in no particular order):

- Support for Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC)
- Oracle Intelligent Storage Protocol (OISP)
- Hybrid storage pools
- dtrace analytics
and others.

There are a bunch of whitepapers here with details:

Thanks, pretty clear with that explanation. ZS3 LUNS are files!!

@Ls Cheng
In almost any document about ZS3-2/4 it get mentioned the support for DNFS and HCC.
For 12c they also point about auto tuning ( but with a fancy name ).

Hi,

dNFS is just the transport method, as is iscsi.
From the ZS appliance viewpoint, the luns are files in ZFS volumes

Hi

If iSCSI use as the LUNs as raw disks

If the disks are NFS shares from ZFS then dNFS

Where did you get the information that ZS3 should use dNFS...? Can you share with us?

Hi All

I´m implementing some T5 server with a ZS3 storage.
The disks are shown to the server as LUNs and then to the ASM,
this configuration works.
But as far as I know the optimal configuration for ZS3 storage
is to use DNFS
I was wondering two things:
1) if I use DNFS then I must use OS files and skip de ASM or I
can/should/must
use ASM?
2) This is a RAC with two nodes, as far as I know the OCR/Voting
can’t be configured as DNFS ( files ) but since I plan to use
ASM it is posible?

Thanks for any help with this configuration.
