I have done it many times as well successfully but there is one caveat 
(actually more but version dependant):

which version are you using? and do you need to relocate the OCR and vote?

10.2 with the vote does require a small outage (look at the note):

OCR / Vote disk Maintenance Operations: (ADD/REMOVE/REPLACE/MOVE) [ID 428681.1]

The others are bug related such as the following:

Bug 8339404 ORA-1578 - Blocks can be misplaced in ASM during a REBALANCE"
Bug is confirmed bug in 10.2.0.2, 10.2.0.4, 11.1.0.6 and 11.1.0.7
