We are looking into going to RAC on 10G on Solaris. We have EMC SAN on the
back end.

I am a newbie to Rac so any pointers would be appreciated. Like should we
use ASM (not sure what that buys us).

We have been on a 8i standby database but want to move towards no downtime
and loadbalancing.

We have bursts of activity which I think the load balancing would help and
the 10G priority would help with processing the jobs.

But I have seem some comments on this list where RAC can actually cause
downtime. We don't want to spend the extra money

on Rac if it actually is going to give us more headaches and cause us more
downtime.

Are their things to avoid, definate must dos....

any comments, suggestions appreciated. I read the install instructions and
things seems pretty straightforwards but .... there are always some leaps of
faith in the Oracle docs.

Thanks,

Kathy
