personal mac (just opened word, pp, and excel to confirm) and I have recently
opened several word docs that were created on my wife’s office 2007 (windows) -

Is the Mac that Won't open the ppt new with OS 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El
Capitan)? If so, you need to upgrade to the newest version of MS Office
Suite FOR MAC. Even MS Office 2011 won't open in the newer Mac OS editions.
However, most all versions of PP will open in Keynote (Mac's PP equivalent)
if loaded on the new Mac & can be "exported" as a PP version that SHOULD
open with your MS OS.
