I've used the Canon CX-1 non myd, it's really no better than any other
non-myd camera, in that it takes one good image before the pupil closes
down too much to take much else of quality. Using it with dilation was
fine though. I also agree that the imaging software for it was clunky.
There didn't seem to be any easy way to do anything on it, and it seemed to
corrupt every AF image I took on it as well. When I called Canon to ask
about rectifying that issue, the rep had no idea what I was talking about.

There was no software when we purchased (like a digi-cam, the images are
imported into a folder when attached to a computer), unsure if this has
changed. Yes, I think the Paxos software is a nice feature. I’ve tested
it and it’s easy to use
I'd have a hard time endorsing it as the exposed pins are easily bent when
placing on the charging dock. This happened to ours and even though we had
paid for an extended service agreement we had to pay $1k for the repair. On
top of that, it took about a year to get the device back after agreeing to
pay for the repairs. I notice the Nidek version has the same weak link
The other thing I should add is we can go through 4 fully charged battery
packs in a busy half-day satellite clinic (about 12 FA/FPs) even when the
device is returned to the charger between sessions.
We also have a couple of Canon CX-1 cameras which are closer to a
traditional fundus camera. I have never used them in non-myd mode but I
know its capable. The Image Spectrum review software is a bit clunky... or
maybe I was spoiled by the intuitive functionality of our old OIS software.
Any way, if you go this route I'd recommend paying for Image Spectrum
software and skipping the free RICS software.
