It looks like they were using ERGs to induce seizure activity as far back
as 1969 -->

I will echo what Stuart said.  42 years and never had it happen, including
six years doing ERGs.



Tangentially, we have all had patients about jump out of the chair when
that first flash goes off with a retinal camera.

I had on 20ish young lady who came straight from a night shift to our
office.  She was falling asleep as I was doing extended fundus photography!



But I agree it is possible an ERG might cause an epileptic seizure.  It
would not hurt to ask ERG patients if they have epilepsy, and then discuss
it with the doctor.

It is a documented risk in electroretinography.  We do not perform ERG on
patients with a history of seizure disorders.
