Guess I should have mentioned it was an Optos tech who told me to do this.
And not spraying the air at the mirror but at the laser emitter itself, I'd
be interested to hear if they tell you something different.
Also considering the service agreement used to be (and may still be)
mandatory, if pitting or scratches do occur Optos will replace the mirror.

Maybe i'll see if i can rig a tube onto a Giottos rocket puffer...

I never would have suspected dust to create streaks, but with a scanning
imaging device, it makes sense.

The "nubbins" are part of the device and I'm not sure you can do
anything to get them out of the image.



From what I've been told, the streaks are from dust settling on the
scanning laser which is located above the parabolic mirror. To remove the
dust, I've been told to spray canned air at the laser.

I'll attempt to attach an image which will probably be more helpful than
my description.

Hello great collective. You've been most helpful already today, so i'll
try again!



We have our new OPTOS California that was installed in Nov 2018 and
we've been noticing a persistent artifact.



We've been noticing these parallel streaks along the bottom of all the
color images.  More or less noticeable based on brightness, exposure, etc.
I don't like them, but they're not particularly detrimental to the images.



A veteran CRA, whom i hold in very high esteem, has provided me input
based on experience with their OPTOS. I'd like to corroborate this
explanation or see what others have learned before i go back to the vendor
to discuss how to address the issue.



Thoughts?  (FWIW, the mirror has been both wet and dry cleaned and these
don't change)



The other thing i'm curious about are the 4 nubbins which are in many
images (arrows), I'm pretty sure these are parts inside the camera
housing.  I'm just wondering why i'm seeing them. I feel like based on the
price of this instrument...these shouldn't be there.



In all seriousness...am i just being a prima donna and expecting too
much?
