The loss of an FF4 is like the loss of an old friend! Bill Nyberg once said,
"Learning to drive a Zeiss (FF 3 or 4) is like learning to drive a Maserati...
once you've mastered it, it's your favorite drive."....😏

I would like to second Paul’s caution about working on capacitors. Csaba had a
friend who was a professional photographer and he was working in his studio on
one of his studio strobes. His screwdriver got a little to close to something
and...
...he woke up minutes later on the other side of the room.
On the other hand, it can only kill you once.

Liz,
Claus Goldbecker, no financial interest, has replaced our capacitors before to
make our camera work properly again. Once, about 20 years ago, he had to
replace them after, in the middle of an FA, I started smelling an acrid smoke
coming out of my power supply. That was scary. I had to pull the patient out of
the smallest (probably non-compliant at the time) FA room and shut the door so
it didn’t fill the whole clinic with smoke. I yanked the power cord out of the
wall on my way out of the door.

You can try to change the flash tube but if it's consistently taking longer to
recycle a flash it's more likely to be a charging capacitor going out or
completely out. If I recall, older Zeiss power supplies had 4 -6 capacitors &
could still work with 1 or 2 blown capacitors but would just take longer to
recycle a new charge strong enough for a flash. Loose cable or contacts are
another option.
Careful working with capacitors. Good ones can hold a charge long after the
power supply has been shut down. Even if they are going out they can hold a
little charge.
Good luck

I would change the flash tube and see if that solves the problem.

Subject: [optimal] FF4 Stereo functionality
Hi All,
Recently I have not been able to take stereo images with our Zeiss FF4.
The flash will not go off for the second image even when the green pilot light
and the signal light are both on. I have tried charging the generator for
several hours before use with no improvement.
Any suggestions? Is our beloved camera on its last leg?
