Ophthalmic Photographer position at Casey Eye Institute/OHSU Portland, OR
Department Overview
This position works closely with academic faculty and house staff in the
performance of ophthalmic photographic patient procedures relating to the
clinical teaching and research needs of the Department of Ophthalmology.
This position is also responsible for evaluating Photography processes and
policies and making recommendations to ensure program provides state of the
art and quality care and service to patients and providers. This position
reports to the Director of Ophthalmic Photography.
Function/Duties of Position
Employee works with all age groups and duties are in support of Service
Excellence and include the following:
2. Performs a wide variety of ophthalmic photography procedures
including color fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography
(includes the venipuncture and injection of both substances), OCT, OCTA, slit
lamp photography, Gonio photography, endothelial specular photography, and
ocular biometry. Certifies for clinical trial imaging.
Travels to other clinic locations to perform ophthalmic photographic
procedures
Teaches residents in the areas of ophthalmic photography. Trains staff and
faculty members on new developments and techniques in ophthalmic imaging
Keeps abreast of current ophthalmic photography techniques, processes,
equipment to ensure program is current, and state of the art.
Assists Ophthalmology faculty in audiovisual training and presentations in
the Macdonald Auditorium.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Photography or a related field plus 1 year experience
or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience along with
considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in
ophthalmic imaging; OR
An Associate’s degree in Photography or related field plus three years’
experience or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience
along with considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment
used in ophthalmic imaging OR:
Five years’ experience performing Ophthalmic Imaging.
Requires strong organizational and multitasking skills, written and verbal
communication skills, and problem solving and creative thinking skills. Must
be able to work well independently, as well as in a team, and assume
responsibility for specific phases of research projects. Must have proven
facilitation and teaching/training skills.
Must be detail oriented. Strong skills and background with clinic operations
including scheduling systems, and inventory control.
Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Photoshop and related computer applications.
Must have professional demeanor, exceptional interpersonal skills - patient
advocacy skills - evaluate patient concerns for timely resolution.
Sensitivity to patient needs. Willingness to serve as a positive and
professional role model. Must have demonstrated record of reliable
attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and
present.
BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA), provider level.
Initial certification is the responsibility of the employee. Renewal
certification classes/cost provided by OHSU if job required.
Additional Details
Must be able to travel to satellite clinics to perform ophthalmic
photographic procedures and assist in the collation and delivery of patient
images. Must be able to travel between clinic locations using stairs,
elevators and tram. OHSU encourages use of public transportation for
commuting to and from work due to limited staff parking.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, and work with a variety of equipment.
Ability to work over at times up to 8 hours/day (depending on clinic need)
with periods of continuous standing throughout the day. Ability to assist
patients with limited mobility during their visit, highly desirable.
