Krista,
75-100 fluorescein angiograms a week?
Not knowing your clinical setting....how may Retina doctors are generating this
volume?
Especially these days, with high definition OCT.
And, if you do the math it all may add up. What are you paying in Canada per
dose of Fl. dye?
Here in the states just around $20/FA dye cost (long for the old days of $4.95)
x 1,200 =$24K
My opinion (after 31 years of angiography) ...I don't want to be performing a
diagnostic test like a Fluorescein (that has with a proven methodology) and
hoping that the cost cutting introduced by reducing the normal dose of dye in
any way influences the resulting value of the information the test provides.
Cost of doing right by your patients.
My question to your managers would be: if it was you or your loved ones would
this be o.k. with you?
Just my 0.2,
Jim

Krista,
Did you check with Chris Carleton and the others in Vancouver and the Interior?
With our low Cdn dollar, anything imported is astronomically expensive....if
your Admin bean counters want to save some money....you could tell them if you
upgrade to OCT-A....that could reduce some of your need for dye. (forget the
sticker shock of a new system - again with import fees/customs etc etc but then
you may save on dye!)
With your patient volume you would probably get alot of use for it.

Thanks for your input Denise et al
I'm not involved in the purchasing of the dye (although maybe I need to be) but
our accountant is saying we're spending close to 25k every 3 months. We do
about 75-100 angiograms per week. We're in Vancouver Canada and I hear it's
been difficult for us to find a company to ship to Canada. Then there's added
custom charges etc...
I'm thinking we need to investigate a cheaper company that ships to Canada
instead of compromising quality images.

My office manager is wanting to cut costs by lowering the dosage of FA dye from
5cc to 2.5cc. We are using a 5% dye and currently cut the dosage for people
with renal issues and those images are rarely as good as when using the full
5cc. My manager is claiming that lots of clinics are doing this. Do any of you
only use 2.5cc with 5%?? I'd be curious to know your thoughts so I can try to
convince the doctors otherwise.
