Just got the OK to attend ICOP. Hoping for a brainstorm that gives birth to an
abstract idea in the next few days.
Looking forward to hobnobbing with my fellow wizards!

Thanks for all of the feedback! Sorry for responding late, I have been sick the
past couple days.
I think collaborating would be a great idea.
I'll be thinking of ideas, but if anyone has an idea/topic that would be good
for ICOP as well please share!

Here’s a PDF of the talk for those that may be interested. It starts out as an
homage to some of the talented woodworkers in the OPS. Neither Gary or I are
skilled woodworkers, but we were inspired by these mentors and a 2 x4 is about
the limit of our skillset!
The PowerPoint version had some additional slides including an animated GIF at
the end with some Three Stooges sound effects. You can use your imagination.
Your Joint Commission comment would fit right in on the disclaimers slide.
Of course this topic might not be the right fit for ICOP, but it does show what
some like-minded photographers can collaborate on. Gary and I don’t work
together (at least since 1988) but we often share lecture and article ideas.
No reason why others couldn’t do the same and collaborate on an abstract for
ICOP!

You could use it to prop up short wheelchair patients and hope the Joint
Commission doesn't make a surprise inspection that day.
Or use it to barricade yourself into your office on days you can't handle any
more stupid questions from co-workers.

Hey Paq,
Good point. I think we only ended up with 5 or 6 actual uses for the
presentation but the title was just too good not to use. I’ll see if I can dig
up the file tomorrow & maybe send a PDF so you can see.
I’ll bet we could “crowdsource” a few more uses here on Optimal if we really
wanted to stretch it out to ten in the future!

“The Top 10 Uses of a 2x4 in Ophthalmology”???
Besides assaulting your boss or smacking the back of an uncooperative patient's
head what else would make the top 10?

My guess is that the ICOP program committee would group together talks with
similar or complementary topics, so it would kind of work the same way we’ve
organized PTT. That’s what’s so cool about the short paper format.
Sounds like you plan to go to Rotterdam. I think most of the ICOP “usual
suspects” will also be going. Anybody else out there in Optimal land planning
on it?

Ohhhh, that's a BINGO, Tim!
I was thinking a Pearls Tips and Tactics presentation. I think we could get 30
minutes, 3 or 4 SHORT talks (5-7 minutes) or do back to back like you
mentioned. The PTT always went over well in Hershey, New Orleans and Chicago...
to name a few..... and I thought Paula Morris' Mission Impossible in SF was
well received too! That was a very similar format to your PTT talks.....
I'm betting you can get one or three folks to join you! ; )
Gotta love McGyver!! (sp?)

There’s a couple ways it could be done. Two different perspectives on the same
topic is the most obvious. So for example you have done a lot of work in ultra
wide imaging with the Optos. Maybe collaborating with someone that uses a
different widefield device or both people show different cases with the same
device or technique.
I’m assuming the talks are 15 minutes? If you had a topic that might go longer
than that, you could attempt to split it into two presentations by two
different presenters to make sure it all gets covered. That would assume that
both talks get selected by the committee, but maybe somehow they could be
flagged as a pair when submitting.
Gary Miller and I have collaborated on related short topics in the past. One
of our favorites is “The Top 10 Uses of a 2x4 in Ophthalmology”. I’ve also done
the tag-team approach with several MDs (I do the technical part and they show
how they use images clinically). It’s definitely a fun way to present and I
just suggest it as an idea to get people thinking about topics to present.
Sometimes having a collaborator can take the stress out of preparing a talk and
abstract.

Thanks Tim!
I have been thinking about submitting since I found out I am able to submit,
even with being the chair.
I would be interested in a tag-team presentation too.
Let me know how that would work!

Just a reminder that the deadline for ICOP submissions in Rotterdam,
Netherlands is only one week away on January 15th, 2020!

These presentations are an excellent way to share your knowledge, your
experiences, and give other attendees a chance to learn how ophthalmic imaging
is practiced around the world. It only takes that first small step to start the
rewarding process of developing a valuable and respected sharing of ideas!
Kind regards,
Olivia
