I'll just wade back into this conversation from the film (they can do that?)
perspective.

Any one desiring to shoot film may want to consider a C-41 Process Black& White
film such as Kodak's BW400CN film.  This type of film can be processed at
pretty much any film processing source where they do C-41 processing.  I would
suggest rather than having prints made, have a CD burned.  This can then be
entered into an EMR system and/or reviewed on a computer.  It could also be
transmitted electronically, though all sorts of HIPPA contortions would have to
be followed (or ignored).

Here's the Kodak data sheet:

Here's a PhotoNet discussion:

While I haven't tried this myself, it is a distinct alternative to the expense
of going full digital.  It could be especially useful in locales where just a
few angiograms are performed annually.  Of course the downside is that one does
not get to monitor the angiogram as it occurs.

Finally, one could try using color C-41 process film.  Have it processed
normally, digitized, then use desaturate-contrast-brightness-levels adjustments
to obtain the desired imaging.  When the Canon full frame cameras first came
out they did not have a B&W mode, so we shot color angiograms and processed
them to B&W.
