Replies are confidentail. The results are periodically summarizd on the
Optacon user list. Please feel free to comment in addition to answering the
qustions below. If you prefer, just send back a quick note with your
comments.
We are hoping eventually to develop a new version of the Optacon which will
read some of the modern print displays currently inaccessible to blind
people, but even if we only end up seek funding to replace certain critical
Optacon parts, the information you provide will be essential.
1. How often do you use your Optacon?
2. If you often use your Optacon, list the most frequent uses.
3. If you seldom use your Optacon, for what tasks do you use it?
4. How long have you been using your Optacon?
5. Why did you decide to begin using an Optacon?
6. Were you trained by TeleSensory? If not, what training did you
receive?
7. Do you use any of the Optacon special lenses, e.g. CRT lens?
8. If you always use the Optaconto perform a particular task, why?
Is it because no other device performs the task? Is it because the Optacon
is faster, more portable, more timely, or other? Explain.
9. For which tasks is the Optacon more trouble than it is worth?
10. Would you be willing to describe your experiences with the
Optacon, both negative and positive, to raise needed funds?
11. Would you be willing to discuss your experiences in detail with
new potential Optacon users?
12. What do you wish the Optacon could do that would motivate you to
spend money on a new version? Example, reading cell phone displays or
computer monitors without special lenses?
