Do not use a power source other than the one that is intended for an Optacon.

I've used every model of the Optacon and I guess I'm not sophisticated enough

1. I've been reading the manual for the R1D because it's the only
manual I seem to be able to find. What are the differences between the
R1C and R1D? Will the R1D manual be useful to me or should I try to
find one for the R1C?
You can use the R1D manual with the R1c. The video port on the back of the
R1C is reversed compared to the R1d, but this is external and minor.
The R1d overall can give a slightly better read, and the threshold seems to
work better in a narrow band.
3. Are there any precautionary steps that I should take internally
before trying to power it on for the first time bearing in mind that I
have no idea how long it's been since it was last used? I have fairly
good repair skills - I'm comfortable replacing parts on iPhones for
example and can solder but I'm totally blind so my soldering skill is
somewhat limited.
For the R1d several transistors tended to blow when the optacon was turned on
with the Intensity control turned up full. So, not sure now about the
R1Cthéness circuitry, but for now turn it on with Intensity on low and then
adjust it as necessary.
Any pointers about any of the above or anything else that anyone
thinks I should know would be amazing. I think that's all for now
though.
