Actually I have discussed this before, but with more emphasis on 
Internet radio stations.

Podcasting, as Philip points out, is the very kind of bypass 
technology that I have been talking about in recent years. The media 
conglomerates have no way to shut this down, since they do not 
control "this" content or distribution via the Internet.

But the iPod is not a necessary precursor to Podcasting. It IS one of 
many ways that Podcasts can be consumed. It is relevant that iTunes 
has the ability to capture Podcasts, which can then be moved to an 
iPod for consumption.

Perhaps the most important point in your post is that some of the 
folks on this list think of the iPod as JUST a music player...a fad.

The iTunes store also sells audio books and is now doing deals with 
the NFL and others to sell game highlights and other content. It is 
easy to extrapolate that Apple will starting selling content with 
pictures next.
