Hard to say what those bars actually mean, wrt "TV content." There's a helluva
lot of TV content, including from the major networks, being consumed in
other-than-live-TV manner. All of the other bars, except obvious ones like
radio, incorporate actual TV programs.
The only relevant information in that graph is that even among OFs, "live TV,"
which includes PVR time-shifted TV btw, is a minority of TV viewing. In fact,
when considering time-shifted viewing from in-home PVRs, what this graphic says
is that actual live/linear TV viewing is even more rare than it first appears.
(Read the small print, where live TV includes playbacks within 7 days.)
But TV ads apply to all sorts of TV viewing methods. Sometimes I wonder how the
authors of these articles watch their TV, to miss such obvious holes in their
analysis. When I watch TV, the ads playing online are now the same ads that
play OTA. Didn't used to be true, back in the early days, but it's true now.
Even local ads get inserted, when watching online. And in my case, I don't even
know which bar in the graph that would represent. Either web browsing, or video
viewing on a computer, or maybe TV streaming devices. But in fact, it's TV
content, with ads. This gets lost in the narrative.
