IMO, Craig misses the important part of all of this.

What this demonstrates, Craig, is why I don't like your much vaunted 
limited-use boxes, like Apple TV and Roku. What have I been saying from the 
very start? These boxes mandate that the CE manufacturer get in bed with the 
content owner or rights holder, right? All of these "apps," that you think are 
so cool, are merely the mechanism used to mandate that collusion.

So here we are, Craig, with a perfect example of this CE manufacturer collusion.

Is it necessary? Nope.
