In a cellular system, assuming you have indoor coverage at all, you depend entirely on one or two towers that are close by and within range. In a broadcast system like radio and TV, there are many more towers that can reach you, and they do not need to be located right next door. > As Ken noted, almost all communications were seriously impacted on 911, As I noted on the day, or shortly after that day, the only system that was not saturated was broadcast radio and TV. The wired Internet was useless, right after the attack on the Pentagon, and phone lines were jammed too. > There are many reasons why you will never see ATSC radios in cellular > handsets, either for the original 8-VSB modulation of the new MHP > standard.
