  Business Wire: IBC 2004 CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8,
2004--Equator Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of
high-performance, programmable and power-efficient system-on-a-chip
(SoC) processors for video delivery, and Hong Kong Applied Science
and Technology Research Institute Company Limited ("ASTRI") an
applied R&D institution conducting world-class customer-focused
research, and delivering superior quality technologies, today
announced that they will jointly showcase a D1-resolution AVC/H.264
real-time video encoder and decoder on the Equator BSP(tm)-15
processor platform at IBC, Sept 10-14 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
This low-cost, single-chip implementation of AVC/H.264 on the BSP-15
processor will enable a wide range of high-volume consumer
applications ranging from IP set top boxes, IP video- phone, digital
video recorders and other digital media adapter products.

AVC/H.264 represents a significant advancement in video compression
technology, doubling the efficiency of digital transmission and
capacity of storage without compromising visual quality. This
implementation of the real time D1 resolution baseline level 3
AVC/H.264 video encoder and decoder can each run on a single BSP-15
chip, and produce DVD quality video at less than 1Mbps. As a result
of ASTRI's focus and expertise in multimedia and wireless technology,
the ASTRI AVC/H.264 codec is optimized to achieve optimal video
quality through narrow and fluctuating channels.

"The Equator BSP-15 chip provides the performance and competitive
price point to deliver our codec technology. Single-chip embedded
solution is more cost effective because it achieves the quality and
efficiency that it used to take two or three or even more chips to
achieve," said Dr. Shen-Chang Chao, vice president of communications
and application software and wireless technology for ASTRI. "Products
and applications using ASTRI's codec technology will benefit
immediately from improved video quality and reduced cost. Since our
solution is 100% software programmable, products that utilizes our
solution will also benefit from continued improvement and innovation
on the algorithmic front in the future."

"Our total focus on digital video, the performance of our
architecture and the cost-effectiveness of our devices has enabled
our customers to be first to market with AVC/H.264 based products,
and to dominate the industry in shipment volumes. We are proud to be
the volume leader in the early AVC/H.264 market," said Rich
Christopher, president and CEO of Equator Technologies. "Our
collaboration with ASTRI will take our AVC/H.264 offering to the next
level - single-chip, low-cost solution for the high volume,
cost-sensitive consumer space."

Equator and ASTRI will be demonstrating the D1 AVC/H.264 live
encoder and decoder at IBC 2004 in the Equator Technologies. booth
(11.124) and the MPEG Industry Forum Booth (4.239), September 10-14
at the RAI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
