You mean, that Apple charges as much for iPads as PC makers charge for very up to date and powerful full-fledged PCs? Or sometimes even more, depending how they're configured? Apple did make a strategically clever move to focus on these little hand-held appliances, making their strategic alliances, and so on, as the article explains. And they also point out that Apple could be subsidizing the cost with revenues from its vertically-integrated app store, not to mention Apple stores. So, a little bit like comparing the price of a cable STB from the price of an ATSC stand-alone. The total cost of ownership is what matters most. I have little doubt that as others come up to speed, on their versions of similar appliances, they will undercut the Apple price. Isn't this the way it's always been? And the Apple faithful will continue buying Apple, regardless, and gladly remain within the walled garden.
