I decided to bite the bullet and use Hulu Plus at $8/month to finish a series we like. When playing the episode, I had to sit through a bunch of commercials. It wasn't as many as OTA/MVPD versions, but it was still over 20% of the total time and I couldn't skip them. Subscription canceled. I liken this media consumption thing to couponing. If someone takes the time search out, clip and use coupons, they can get groceries for next to nothing. However, it takes a lot of time, energy, organization and dedication to implement. And perhaps, you'll have to take one brand over the other to realize the savings. You definitely have to buy more processed foods which are not nearly as nutritious and (arguably) less delicious. My sister-in-law does it and it definitely pays for her time and energy; once she actually received money from the store even after filling her cart. In the media world, one can search out the media and probably actually find it for free or a very low cost. But it takes more time and mental energy to get there. And you might have to redirect your interests to one show over another. Some may find it to be worth it. Personally, I would rather just spend the money and easily get my groceries without investing the time and energy to get the discount. I feel the same way about media consumption. However, If I have to spend the money, I'm going to consume the food that is healthy for the body with flavors I enjoy, using brands I like. I certainly don't want to have to buy AND EAT an El Jefe Montegon frozen burrito before I have the filet mignon and asparagus I just grilled on the barby. Dan (P.S.: sorry if this post repeats; I had to change a line to get it not look like a command to ecartis.)
