Another Brodkin gem...
Maybe municipalities should get into the grocery store business before Amazon
takes it over...
;-)
The real issue here is political greed and the difficulty that governments are
having raising taxes. The costs to private investors to deploy broadband in
both urban (municipal) and underserved (rural) areas can be significant:
1. Permitting;
2. Access to, and ongoing cost for right-of-ways, pole attachment, and
franchise fees paid to municipalities;
3. Time - resources needed to deal with regulations, studies and other delays
that often take years before new infrastructure can be built.
If there is at least some agreement that the Federal government should not take
over the wireless telco industry with a Federal 5G network, why are some people
so anxious for local governments to take over the ISP business?

Craig
