Dated December 15, 2015, shows the latest Nielsen findings. The trends are
important, as always, and it's important to read what the stats are actually
counting - the small print.
For instance, "traditional TV" includes live and time shifted, but evidently
not time-shifted online, while "TV-connected devices" includes TV content as
well as games and other stuff, viewed on the big screen, and the device can be
anything the connects to the Internet. Where instead "PC video" means watching
on the PC, and note the exclusions of what is being counted.
So as usual, difficult to get the real picture. But it is interesting to note
that among the 18-34 year old demographic, this past year, almost 1/3 (32%) of
what is being consumed on the big screen is online content -- not linear TV,
not PVR-shifted TV, not in-system on demand TV.
And also, same demographic, of the total weekly video consumption, more than
44% of video content overall, including TV, is Internet delivered.
