Leading Demodulator Chip for Digital Satellite TV Now Available as
Tested Bare Die

12 October 2004, 09:30am ET

        OTTAWA, Oct. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Zarlink Semiconductor
(NYSE/TSX:ZL) today announced that its industry-leading QPSK
(quadrature phase shift keying) demodulator for digital satellite TV
systems is now available as a fully tested bare die product, or KGD
(known good die). Introduced in August 2004, the ZL10313 chip remains
available as a fully packaged product.

Engineers designing complex consumer media systems face the
challenge of incorporating increasingly advanced features into
reduced spaces, with aggressive cost and time-to-market restrictions.
By supplying the ZL10313 demodulator in KGD form, Zarlink is
increasing the packaging options for system and sub-system designers,
while continuing to deliver maximum functionality in leading-edge
designs.

Bare die are ideally suited for use in high-density designs,
such as MCMs (multi-chip modules) in combined satellite
tuners/demodulator front-ends. The unpackaged die provide designers
with higher levels of integration, while reducing the weight and
height of components.
