Let's be really generous and say that prices will continue to drop 20% per year (note: this is possible at the beginning of a new product life cycle, but very difficult to sustain as the product matures. Using the 20% assumption, the 26-29 inch LCD panels would cost: 2005 - $552 2006 - $441 2007 - $353 2008 - $282 So even with this ambitious assumption on price decreases, it will take at least four years for LCD displays to become competitive with CRT prices. Unfortunately, during this time period, the addition of an ATSC tuners will be mandated, driving the price back up (the same would be true for an equivalent CRT display). I hope Bert is right about this. The sooner the CRT goes away, the sooner we can move forward with the next generation of DIGITAL television.
