Cable and satellite operators retain that right. I suppose HBO can find some Sling TV-like partner, if all it needs to do is not sell direct. Those contracts seem to be written at a time when the local-monopoly MVPD net was the only game in town, for multi-channel TV content delivery, so that not selling direct automatically involved the MVPDs.
