Yes Bert. The article noted that and I mentioned this in my message. Apparently
you just ignored that.

So, if the article is trying to tell us that most people are still using
their legacy hardware to watch TV content on the big screen, fine.

Yes. That is exactly what the article said. And it is exactly what is happening.

Only a limited amount of the content behind the traditional MVPD walls Is
available via Sling. HBO was never part of the extended basic bundle; all that
has changed is that you can now buy it from a MVPD or direct from HBO.

If it's trying to tell us that the legacy hardware is the only way to get the
highest value content on the big screen, bunk.

That is true for much of the content on the extended basic bundle. As the
article noted, that started to change in 2015. But Sling and Sony Vue have not
made any dent in the traditional MVPDs - a few hundred thousand at best.

These guys need to get out more often and see what's easily doable. There's a
reason why so many PCs have HDMI outputs these days. And there are wireless
means of making this connection as well.

Bunk. PCs are not a significant factor in terms of streaming entertainment to
TVs. The little boxes you hate are used by tens of millions - PC a few million.

That is not to say that PCs are not a major second screen - they are. But most
are not connected to the big screen in the family room.

Sling is a slimmed down MVPD service

Sling TV is making some of the highest value TV content, previously only
available via traditional MVPD, now available to big screens or other
screens, without cable STB, and without necessitating an Apple box either.

Yes Bert. Both the article and my response noted that. I think you will find
that the dominant way to get Sling on the big screen TV is the little boxes you
hate, including Apple TV. Sling is available on all of these boxes, tablets,
smartphones...and PCs.

And if these guys would get out more often, they could put all of this in
perspective. There is no reason to depend on "apps." There is no reason to
depend on a box that now costs over half of the price of a full-fledged PC,
only to reward the buyer with a tiny sliver of what's actually available on
the Internet. And there is no reason to think that Apple has the corner on
this new way of watching TV. It is simply not true. How do they not know this?

There is every reason to believe that Apps are going to be very significant as
people migrate from legacy MVPD services, and their walled in STBs, to services
delivered via the Internet. We are not talking about running Office. We are
talking about navigating a world of entertainment content from anywhere,
anytime, on any screen. And a whole new world of Apps to control the Internet
of things, for casual gaming, for social media, for FaceTime, for enjoying your
photos, for music, for home security, for ...

Sorry, but PCs are trucks. They are not the next interface to the TV.

Craig
