I am positive about 3DTV. The glasses will become passive, lightweight and
cheap. The programming will start with sports and games but will widen to other
programming.

From CEA's SmartBrief:

"Avatar" director says 3-D will overtake 2-D in about 25 years James
Cameron, the director of "Avatar," said the three-dimensional format
will one day replace 2-D as the standard for all entertainment content.
Speaking at a technology conference in Seoul, South Korea, Cameron said 3-D
is not a fad and will, within 25 years, be the format of choice for all
content viewed in theaters, on TV and online. [From The Washington
Post/The Associated Press (5/13)]

I am not saying I agree with him, but it is interesting he said that. There
are certainly many hurdles to overcome, including standardizing on the
format(s) for delivery to the home, standardizing on the interconnect from
the PC/Set-Top/Player to the 3DTV set (both the cable and the media
format(s) the cable is carrying), standardizing on what the 3DTV exactly
does with the content, and standardization of the glasses so your buddies
can all bring their glasses over for the Super Bowl.

It may take another 20 years.
