Old Union is blessed to have a Mission Endowment Fund, which generates
money each year to be used for mission. (It can not be used for General
Fund, budget, or church operating expenses.) Following the fund's
guidelines, the session has up to $7,300 available this year to give to
mission work. Because of generous donations and grants, none of it was
used for this summer's mission project.
At its meeting on Monday, the session will decide how the money will be
used. If none is distributed, the $7,300 will be added to the fund's
principle to generate money for future years.
Here are several possible places where the session could allocate the money.
1. The Lighthouse: either for use in their general ministry in our
community, or specifically for their food bank.
2. Fishbone Ministry: a children's ministry in one of the poorest
neighborhoods in Butler
3. Refreshing Springs Ministry: a ministry for disadvantaged residents
of Aliquippa and Ambridge
4. Hosanna Industries: a local ministry that builds and renovates
housing for the poor and elderly
5. Josh Heikkila: our mission co-worker in Ghana. The vehicle he uses
for his work is starting to get pretty old
6. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance: either for their overall work to
help disaster victims and refugees, or specified for hurricane victims in
the US.
