Merry Christmas everyone.
I’ve got a couple in the studio drawer if you want to play with one Sam :)
iLok was a necessary pain in the ass when I was using DP and packages like
Motu's Symphonic and World collections.
It’s essentially a USB drive that holds software licenses that have to be
registered and managed through their web portal.
I’m on Logic Pro now and none of my plugins or packages require any of that
nonsense any longer. Nor do any of my film editing and associated plugins and
packages.
I don’t like using software that requires an intermediate authorization let
alone a separate (and of course easily miplaceable) small device.
I’m doing a lot of work in 3D modeling and design right now and when I started
working in those new programs some are browser based systems that of course
require a live internet connection for design as well as running systems in the
shop.
I quickly moved on to dedicated programs like Blender that don’t have that
intermediary potential roadblock.

Well it appears I'm mistaken about needing an ILok to use the plugins. No
longer required. Still wonder about using one.

Subject: [oldfriends] Audio interface follow-up/ilock?
So I think I've narrowed it down to the MOTU 2 or the SSL 2+ (both have the
midi). Very similar, both get good reviews, youtube loves them both. The SSL
has the upper hand because of the included software, but I understand it uses
an "ILock". What is that? How do you use it? It's a USB dongle, but is an
actual "Ilock" the only option? Are there others for less? Does it have to be
taking up a USB port whenever you want to load that software? Does it work if
you have the plug-ins on more than one computer?
And happy holiday to everyone. Let's hope 2021 is a bit more smooth on all of
us.
Sam
