What is his level formal literacy? How much literature has he read? From
your comments, I am under the impression that he has read 100 Anios de
soldedad, El Quijote, and La mujer arana with deep analysis of their
cultural and historical background. Not to mention several novel by Miguel
de Unamuno, at least Garcia Lorca's trilogy. This is without mentioning
some of the traditional Titans of South America and contemporaries; cuentos
y leyendas al igual que novelas a la altura de las antes mencionadas. How
well can he explain the use of different tenses, not just using them but
explain why and how.

It would help to know his formal academics background.
